Zachary Featherstone, DO

Dr. Zachary Featherstone is currently practicing at Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital (Elko Nevada) as their primary pediatrician. There, he provides all aspects of pediatric care, including stabilizing critical pediatric patients in the ER and critical newborns in the nursery, managing care of hospitalized patients, serving on medical boards, all on top of working as a Board-Certified General Pediatrician.

He completed his pediatric residency at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas School of Medicine (UNLV). He graduated from Brigham Young University with a B.S. in Exercise Science with a minor in Chemistry. Subsequently, he became a certified physician upon graduation from Pacific Northwest University-College of Osteopathic Medicine (PNWU-COM) in 2018. During medical school, he was recognized as the 'Honorable Student Doctor of the Year' and was inducted into Gold Humanism Honor Society. After graduating, he participated in research on the health of the Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing population using patient-reported outcome measures (PROM) at Gallaudet University, before resuming his residency at UNLV.

Dr. Featherstone has served in the executive presidency in the Association of Medical Professionals with Hearing Losses (AMPHL) and remains a proud member of this wonderful organization. He served as the conference chairperson of AMPHL 2022 Biannual Conference in Las Vegas. He is well known for his litigation with PNWU-COM when they rescinded his admission. He has also provided numerous workshops and seminars, including keynote sessions. He remains active in his role as a mentor to many Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing students pursuing careers in the healthcare field.

When not busily working, you will either find him rowing on whitewater rivers in the northwest or adventuring with his family in the great outdoors.

Ian DeAndrea-Lazarus, MPH

Ian is currently an eighth-year MD/PhD student at the University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry. He received his Master’s in Public Health from the University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry in 2017. Ian graduated from Gallaudet University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 2011, where he also minored in Chemistry. After graduating from Gallaudet, he completed a two-year post-baccalaureate fellowship in the Laboratory of Cancer Biology and Genetics at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland.

Between 2017 and 2022, Ian served as a member of the Board of Directors and as the Vice President of the Association of Medical Professionals with Hearing Losses (AMPHL). In 2015-16, Ian was the Vice President of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons Medical Student Chapter, Co-Leader of the Neurological Surgery Focus Group, and the Neurosurgery Co-Liaison of the Surgery Interest Group at the University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry. Ian is also involved in the Medical Education Pathway and the Deaf Health Pathway at the University of Rochester.

As an MD/PhD student, Ian recently completed his PhD in Translational Biomedical Science and worked in the Cognitive Neurophysiology Laboratory under the tutelage of the renowned Dr. John Foxe and Dr. Ed Freedman. Ian’s PhD thesis explored the roles of deafness and early sign language acquisition on anticipatory biasing of visuospatial attention as indexed by alpha-band oscillatory electroencephalographic (EEG) activity. He is now currently completing his last two years of medical school.
